New Fulham manager Martin Jol has admitted he was sure he would return to the Premier League during his four-year absence from the English game.

Jol spent three years in charge of Tottenham between 2004 and 2007 before taking over at Hamburg and then Dutch giants Ajax, but he is glad to finally be back in England.

“Everybody knew I would like to come back,” told reporters.

“I said that when I left, like Arnold Schwarzenegger I will be back, and I am back.

“I think Fulham is a traditional club, like Spurs, West Ham and all the London clubs.

“They gave me a good feeling and when we played here with Spurs we had a couple of good results, and I like the colours, black and white as well.”

The Dutchman came close to becoming Fulham’s manager last year before finally taking over the managerial reins following Mark Hughes’ departure from Craven Cottage this summer.

Jol, who has been without a club since leaving Ajax in December, admitted his delight at getting the job, adding: “I could go on but Fulham are happy, I am happy, so hopefully we can keep it that way.”

The 55-year-old conceded he is likely to be busy in the coming weeks as he strives to improve his squad with new players.

“I think we need to bring in four of five,” he said.
