IBADAN-A group under the aegis of Yoruba Transformational Council, YTC, has said that due uneven distribution of political offices and perceived marginalization of the South West zone, President Goodluck Jonathan should appoint the next Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice from the zone.
The group, through its President, Dr. Solomon Adeyemi, said yesterday that the need to consider the zone was informed by the recent loss of Speakership and the contribution of the zone to legal practice.
He argued that by virtue of the contributions, it would not be out of place to give it such position.
Dr. Adeyemi lamented that the zone had been relegated to the background in the sharing of political offices in the present political dispensation.
“Because of the numerous law and justice sector reforms that this administration is committed to, it is important that the President gets competent legal practitioners to man the Ministry of Justice. Such persons are many in the South West.
The ministry needs a very competent and experienced legal practitioner that can turn things around in a short period because time is of essence”, he added.
