LAGOS-A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, has struck out the criminal charge against Managing Director of Citibank, Emeka Emuwa, former Chairman of the bank, Chief C. Sankey and 10 others by the Federal Government.
Trial judge, Justice Binta Murtala Nyako, struck out the charge following a notice of discontinuance by the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, SAN, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 174(1)(c) of the 1999 Constitution. Adoke added that the notice of discontinuance was in the interest of the public and justice.
Others named in the charge which was struck out include: Peter Harris, Kunle Oladosu, Samson Ebie, Mrs. Olusola Fagbure, Ms. Lulu Ndubuka, and Mrs. Okechi Emeka-Egwim.
When the matter came up weekend, counsel to the bank informed the court of the notice of discontinuance.
Citibank and its officers, it will be recalled, had obtained an order from the former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ade Alabi, who held that there was no basis to suspect that they had committed any criminal offences in connection with its transactions with Micmerah International.
