LAGOS-There was bloodbath, yesterday, on Ikorodu Expressway, Lagos, following a clash between factions of street urchins otherwise known as area boys, leading to the death of an unspecified number of persons.

Meanwhile, Police confirmed the death of two while eyewitnesses said the death toll was higher.

About 23 persons, some of whom were innocent passers-by, were reportedly injured in the clash, which  forced the residents to flee their abode.

Vanguard gathered that there had been a lingering dispute over leadership between Fadeyi and Mushin boys, over who would collect money from containers before off-loading.

The dispute, as gathered, took a violent dimension at about 3pm, Saturday, after members of both factions engaged in a free-for-all, where dangerous weapons, such as knives, broken bottles and guns were freely used.

The fight reportedly continued till the early hours of yesterday, as members of both factions stormed their rival’s homes and unleashed mayhem on anyone in sight. Sporadic gun shots from the warring factions lasted several hours.
Motorists avoided the route, yesterday, as those who dared reportedly had their windscreens smashed.
It took the combined effort of teams of policemen to contain the situation.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said the miscreants fled on sighting the Police vans. He confirmed that two persons lost their lives, adding that one of the corpses was carried away by one of the factions, while the other was deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary by the Police.
