Freetown — Four nations – Cape Verde, Morocco, Mali and Senegal – have confirmed their participation in the forthcoming Continental Beach Volleyball Tournament which will run from July 3-5 in Freetown. The three-day beach volleyball tournament will also serve as zonal qualification for the London 2012 Olympic Games in England.

According to the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association scribe, Ahmed Khanou, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mauritian, Liberia and Gambia are yet to confirm their participation but certain that they will do so this week.

“Each country is expected to fill in two teams for both the male and female categories,” Khanou said, adding that four countries are expected to qualify from this tournament to meet others in the next qualifying stage until they get the final four nations that will represent the continent in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Despite the tournament being played during the rains, Khanou said they are aware of the season and will have to contend with it.

He said: “We known the raining season is on but the tournament has to go on as planned. In beach volleyball, when it is raining we can hold on to a match and when the rain stops we can continue from where we stopped.”
