Norwich City manager Paul Lambert has spoken of his excitement at the release of the Premier League fixtures, but acknowledges that the Canaries’ first game away to Wigan Athletic will be a tough challenge.
Norwich travel to the DW Stadium on August 13, and Lambert insists that his team’s hard work in gaining promotion last season means they have earned their chance in the Premier League – and that the outlook is exciting for both players and fans.
Lambert told the club’s official website: “Whoever we were going to face in the opening game we knew it was going to be really tough and that is the way it will be in the Premier League – really, really tough games.
“Everyone at the Football Club will be looking forward to it and I’m sure we’ll take a massive support up there with us on the opening day.
“Roberto Martinez has done a great job there at Wigan and I’m sure it’ll be a great game.”
On their difficult away fixtures in October, Lambert added: “You look at back-to-back away games at Manchester United and Liverpool in October and that just shows the level we’ve worked hard to get to.
We’ve earned the right to be here – it is a great challenge and exciting times for the Club and the fans.”
Having secured promotion from League One in 2010, Norwich last season became the first club to reach the Premier League via back-to-back promotions since Manchester City in 2000.
