ILORIN— Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has called on philanthropists and public-spirited organisations to emulate the Chancellor of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Bishop David Oyedepo, by investing massively in education.
The governor said this, weekend, in Omu-Aran, at the maiden matriculation of the institution in which 970 students took part.
Ahmed, who described education as the bedrock of development and a potent tool to eradicate poverty, ignorance and diseases, commended Oyedepo for his foresight and timely intervention in the education sector.
He said education remains one of the cardinal programmes of his administration because it is a vehicle to drive growth, development and progress, hence his preparedness to accord it priority attention in the next four years.
Earlier, the Chancellor, and Chairman, Board of Regents, Dr. David Oyedepo, who enumerated reasons for establishing the university, said agricultural revolution was a one-sure way towards combating unemployment and escaping impending political crisis in the nation.
Oyedepo stated that the institution was “established not just as a degree- awarding institution, but as a solution centre to food crisis because it has the largest single enrolment in any College of Agriculture in a year in Nigeria.”
