The Confederation of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has depicted the retirement of Ugandan referee Muhammad Ssegonga as a blow to the region.
Cecafa general secretary Nicholas Musonye told Daily Monitor on phone that the region will miss the skills of Ssegonga, who officiated his final game last weekend. He was a Fifa-certified referee.
“Ssegonga has been the best referee in East and Central Africa and one of the best in the continent,” Musonye said. “Seeing him retire is a big blow because the younger lads still had a lot to learn from him.”
Ssegonga had been expected to officiate at the regional Cecafa Kagame Club Championship that gets underway next week in Dar es Salaam.
