Norwich City are unconcerned by their fixtures and are simply looking to be 17th or higher come the end of the Premier League season, according to chief executive David McNally.
The Canaries will be playing in the Premier League for the first time since the 2004-05 season following promotion from the Championship last year, and McNally stated that the Carrow Road outfit are without delusion and that their aim is simply to stay in the top flight.
“The challenge is to earn the right to stay in the league,” he told Sky Sports News.
“It’s about getting points across the course of the season, finishing 17th or better and earning the right to stay in the league.
“The only target is to stay in the league, 17th will be absolutely fine. Whatever points total is needed to finish 17th, that’s the aim.”
Norwich face Wigan Athletic away on the opening day of the Premier League season, but McNally says the club would have been happy no matter who they played.
He said: “I’m just delighted for the fans that they are enjoying the fixtures for the Premier League.
“All the games are tough, Wigan away is a hard game but one we relish and look forward to.
“We could have played Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in the first four and we’d be as thrilled as we are with the fixtures as they stand.
“We’re delighted with the start but we would have been however the fixtures had fallen.
“Our fans can’t wait, we’ve had to cap season tickets for this year and we don’t have many tickets left to sell for any fixture this year.”
