Abuja Bomb Blast Victims to be Flown Abroad

    Federal Capital Territory Administration has concluded arrangement to fly three victims of the December 31st ,bomb explosion at Mogadishu Barrack to South Africa for proper medical care.

    Authorities of the administration said the decision to take the victims for oversea treatment was to demonstrate government care and concern for the welfare of the residents in time of difficulties.

    Similarly, the administration is to foot the medical bill of victims of May 29th bomb blast that occurred at Zuba, a suburb of the FCT.

    Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Dr. Biodun Olorunfemi who disclosed this when he visited the victims at the Asokoro and Wuse District Hospitals yesterday in Abuja, said the victims would be flown abroad for limb replacement and total rehabilitation.

    Olorunfemi stated that the process of securing Visa and documents would be fast tracked to ensure that victims flown out within one week to accelerate their recovery process.

    The permanent secretary who took over the affairs of the administration five days ago from the former minister Senator Bala Mohammed also disclosed that the FCT Administration is awaiting the recommendations of the FCT Hospital Management Board on the quick possible ways of assisting the victims get re-integrated back into the society after their treatment.

    He further commiserated with the victims of the unfortunate bomb blast and assured that the FCT Administration will continue to foot all their medical bills.

    Dr. Olorunfemi who expressed confidence in the ability of the FCTA doctors handling the victims however, noted that the cases being taken overseas were complicated and beyond the scope of the hospitals.

    He commended the medical personnel handling them in both hospitals for their professional skills, commitment to duty and patriotic disposition.

    The Permanent Secretary noted the contributions of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who has collaborated with the FCT Administration to foot their bills and seeing to their full recovery.

    Dr. Olorunfemi pledged the commitment of the FCT Administration for all the victims to recover and regain their full potentials.

    Speaking with Abuja Reel on their hospital bed some of the victims complained of been abandoned at the hospital without care from anyone for almost a month except from their families but did not want their names in print for fear of victimization.

    What is your name “My name is Peter Ayuba living in Zuba. The incidents happened on May 29 at Zuba market area. I am now feeling fine the hospital is taking care of me free of charge food inclusive.

    I am a businessman I went for my business when the thing happened.

    Another victim, a soldier Sergeant, Fafure Adesanmi a victim of Dec. 31st 2010 at Abacha barracks Mammy market who said until the incident he was the army official driver attached to major General Salim Mainna of defence headquarters was grateful to FCTA for the gesture.

    “The hospital has promised to take me abroad to rehabilitate me they said they want to give me artificial limbs to substitute the lost ones.”

    It may be noted that eight victims of recent Zuba bomb blast were evacuated from two private hospitals in Zuba where they received initial emergency care to FCT hospitals for further medical management on the instruction of the FCT Permanent Secretary.
