Luanda — The closing ceremony of the 3rd legislative session of the 2nd legislature of the National Assembly started this Wednesday at 10 a.m, under the guidance of the parliament speaker, António Paulo Kassoma.
The present legislative year was opened by the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, which for the first time in terms of the constitution, delivered a speech in the parliament, aimed at assessing the state of the nation.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, ambassadors and members of diplomatic body in Angola.
The legislative period opens on 15 October and ends on 15 June.
Until September 15, the National Assembly will work extraordinarily, due to parliamentary holidays happening from September 15 to October 15.
The current Angolan parliament is comprised by 220 MPs, divided into five political parties that ran for 2008 legislative elections, namely MPLA with 191 MPs, UNITA (16), PRS (8), FNLA(3) and New Democracy party (2).
