An Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting at Karu yesterday ordered a 29-year-old applicant to be remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.
Uwen Udema of Gbagalape village, Abuja, was charged with raping a minor, an offence contrary to Section 275 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Silas Nanpan, told the court that on June 4, a man reported at Nyanya Police Station that on May 5, when his daughter went to the accused person’s apartment to collect N350 debt owed her for selling water to him, the accused dragged her into his room and had canal knowledge of the girl.
He said the accused confessed to the crime during police investigation.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail, which the prosecutor objected.
Chief Magistrate Ahmed Shuaibu ordered the accused to be remanded in prison pending the hearing of the case.
The case was adjourned to July 25 for hearing.
