Vanguard summit on parenting kicks-off today

    Vanguard Newspapers, in collaboration with the Centre for Black Arts and Civilization, CBAAC, UNICEF and the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, will kick start a two-day Parenting Summit today at Agip Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan Lagos in commemoration of the 2011 International Day of the African child.

    The summit with the theme “The place of parenting in curbing child abuse,”will start from 9am to 3 pm.

    Vanguard publisher, Mr Sam Amuka will give the opening remarks followed by a dance drama on child sexual abuse and street children. The keynote address will be delivered by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola as well as an address by Director, CBAAC, Dr Tunde Babawale.

    Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Chief Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire will thereafter declare open the summit session.
    The summit will also feature documentary show on child abuse, motivational speech by Mr Emmanuel, Speaker, Lagos State Children’s Parliament and a documentary show on child abuse.

    The First presentation is on “Parenting in 21st century: Nipping the Monster”, by Dr Princess Olufemi Kayode, the second presentation on Child Sexual Abuse, the realities by Dr Adah Erinne of the World Health Organisation, WHO while the third presentation is on Street Children, what can parents do”, by Chief Mrs Maureen Bakare, Bartex Education Consult.

    There will also be a song on Child Abuse by DanceHut Dance and a talk on “overcoming the effects of Child Abuse–My personal experience by Mr Praise Fowowe

    On Thursday June 16 there will be a road walk against child abuse by students from various schools across Lagos with the take off point at Police College Ikeja at 9 am and terminate at Governor’s office, Alausa, Ikeja.

    Special guests at the summit include, Mrs Onari Duke, former First Lady of Cross River State and Mrs  Olufunsho Amosun, wife of the Governor of Ogun State.
