Hans-Christian Mahnke, from the Cultural Desk said at the donation ceremony the embassy is delighted to make a contribution to boxing, especially in the north. "From what we have been noticing over the years, most of the successful boxers hail from the northern part of the country and it is only proper to make a small contribution to Kilimanjaro," Mahnke noted.

Walvis Bay — The ruling party youth wing, Swapo Youth League, in Erongo is appealing for donations in cash or kind in aid of the north and north-eastern flood victims as well as flood victims in southern Angola.

Swapo Youth League Secretary for Erongo, Laina Shapange, made the call this weekend at a press conference attended by her Angolan counterpart from the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (JMPLA).

The announcement heralds the start of a month-long campaign to collect clothing, blankets and other basic items.

The two youth movements will dispatch teams to selected areas in the affected regions to hand over collected items to flood victims.

“This is the first time in the history of our country where youth leagues from different countries are joining hands to raise funds and help people affected by the floods in the two countries,” Shapange said at the media briefing.

In addition to the campaign, SPYL plans to have a gala dinner in Walvis Bay which senior government officials, politicians and businesspeople from the region are expected to attend.

The event will take place on July 31.

Shapange said an auction is also planned.

“We are therefore humbly requesting the residents of Erongo to donate any item for our auction and provide food and beverages for the event to make it a huge success,” she added.
