GOVERNOR Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has appointed Eze Sam Ohiri, monarch of Obi Orodo Autonomous Community in Mbaitoli Local Council as the acting chairman of the state’s Council of Traditional Rulers.
Ohiri replaces Eze Cletus Illomuanya of Obinugwu (Orlu) who was enjoying his third term in office before Okorocha dissolved the council last week in his maiden broadcast.
According to a statement at the weekend signed by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Gozie Anwukah, three other monarchs were named as deputy chairmen in charge of their zones. They are Ezes Mathew Onweni (Okigwe), Chiadi Okoro (Owerrri) and Emma Okereke (Orlu).
The statement which was made available to journalists in Owerri also said that the governor also approved the appointment of the immediate past Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Amaechi Nwoha, as his Senior Special Assistant (Assembly Liaison). All the appointees, the statement added, will be inaugurated this week.
Ohiri, a Knight of Anglican Church, was kidnapped a few months ago and regained his freedom after some months. In the process of kidnapping him, his 90-year-old father died as a result of gun shot wounds he sustained at the scene. His brother was also killed in the process at his palace.
