Education officials misappropriated 4.2 billion shillings meant for the expansion of infrastructure in our schools.
According to an audit carried out by treasury, some ministry officials have been trying to cover up the scandal.
Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta says 1.9 billion shillings did not reach the intended schools having been paid to non registered institutions or deposited into bank accounts belonging to individuals.
An earlier draft report had indicated that the ministry lost 8.2 billion shillings through corruption which led some donors to withdraw their support.
