The ministry of agriculture insists there is no food crisis in the country despite the drought situation having been declared a national disatster.
Agriculture secretary Wilson Songa says there is enough food to feed the country until the next season but farmers are hoarding it, especially maize cereals.
The drought has already been declared a national disaster. Songa says money allocated to the ministry by treasury in this year’s budget will enable them come up with measures to avert a future food crisis.
He is also urging farmers who are hoarding maize to release it to the market to stabilize prices.
