THE Yoruba Unity Forum says a recent article in a newspaper was to discredit the late Papa Obafemi Awolowo family and cast aspersions on the integrity of Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo and her three living children.
In a release signed by Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, vice chairman and Senator Femi Okurounmu, Leader, the forum said the article was intended to “advance the political ambition of a sponsor who believes that the way to reach the exalted position of Yoruba leadership is to denigrate and demystify the Awolowo dynasty and particularly Mama Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo, and by this project himself as the new Awolowo.
“We need to remind this sponsor, however, that Yoruba leadership is not purchasable, nor is it a position to which people of doubtful antecedents can simply force themselves. Neither Papa Obafemi Awolowo nor Papa Adekunle Ajasin nor Papa Abraham Adesanya became Yoruba leaders through such conscienceless and Machiavellian intrigues”.
