The Gambia senior national team, the Scorpions, yesterday won Gabon a goal to nil in an international friendly match played in the Gabonese capital Libreville ahead of their African Nations Cup qualifiers against Namibia in September.
The Gambian charismatic forward, Njogu Demba, scored the lonely goal to put the visiting team ahead in the second half of the game. Demba scored his second ever goal for the Scorpions since 2008 when he shifted allegiance to play for the nation.
The win is vital to the scorpions following defeats in two consecutive friendly matches against Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea, and faces a most win situation when they travel to Namibia in September; as well as a home game against Burkina Faso, a month later in their quest for their first ever nations cup appearance.
Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will co-host the next edition of the continent’s most prestigious football showdown due to take place in 2012.
