Asmara — Red Sea Soap Factory has introduced new machineries that meet international standard with a view to boosting production, according to Mr. Ogbamichael Gebremeskel, head of administration in the factory.

He explained that like many other factories, Red Sea Soap Factory was on the verge of total destruction prior to independence. Following substantial investment in the post-independence period, however, it was not only revived but also brought about qualitative changes in its products, Mr. Ogbamichael elaborated.

He explained that in accordance with the Eritrean government’s policy towards developing the industrial sector and encouraging private investment, the factory was privatized.

Indicating that it has managed to create job opportunities to nationals, on top of boosting production, Mr. Ogbamichael stated that the factory is producing various types of soap for body and cloths, washing powder and glass and surface cleaner. He said that it applies internationally recognized quality control standards to determine the quality of its product.

There are also plans to boost production for export, beyond meeting local demand, he added.
