Tema, June 4, GNA - The Northern Alliance For a Better Ghana (NAFBEG), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to prosecute Mr Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Fanteakwa for insulting Northerners last Monday on Radio.

The practice of homosexuality is madness and must not be tolerated in the society, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako has postulated. He said the practice is “lunacy” and anybody caught indulging in the practice must be arrested and prosecuted.

The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper was speaking on Joy FM’s news analysis programme, Newsfile, hosted by Matilda Asante Asiedu, Saturday. His comments come in the wake of reports that 8,000 homosexuals have been registered by some non-governmental organisations in two regions in the country.

Mr Baako said his gorge rises when he imagines a man having a sexual relationship with another man. Conservative Kweku Baako can contain lesbianism because for him that is a little tolerable. “Having gone to border school before, I knew about the woman-to-woman thing; that is not as revolting,…the woman-to-woman is a bit accommodating, but are you telling me that a man, I should turn back for you to penetrate my back side, it’s lunacy,” he said.

That is not all of Kweku Baako’s problems, he believes heterosexuals practicing anal sex is equally madness. He said the society must be worried about reports that the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDs and other diseases is higher in homosexuals.

He is calling on the state to crack down on the practice in the country. Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea however called for a sober reflection on the causes of homosexuality. That, he believes will help the nation to discuss the homosexuality question dispassionately and to find an appropriate response to it.

A Constitutional lawyer, Nana Asante Bediatuo, disagreed with Kweku Baako, insisting that some people are into homosexuality not by choice but by nature. He said the fact that homosexuality is abnormal does not and should not make it criminal.

“For example, one can be born with one leg slightly shorter than another, one can be hard of hearing in one ear; all of these are abnormalities because we expect that a human being should be able to have both ears hearing correctly, both eyes seeing correctly and if you are born and you have a defect of that kind, it is an abnormality but it is an immutable one, it is a natural one and we cannot and should not penalize you for that,” he stated.

Mr Asante Bediatuo wants all Ghanaians to be aware of their constitutional rights because the Constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, religion amongst others.

NDC Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, agreed. While saying he will prefer to relate with women, he said he cannot arrogate to himself the right to stop others whose sexual preference is same sex from enjoying their rights.
