Liverpool are hoping to land a £30 million double swoop for English youngsters Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones, according to the Daily Mail.

The Merseyside club reportedly raised their initial offer of £13m to £15m on Thursday for Sunderland midfielder Henderson, with Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish also eyeing the 20-year-old’s midfielder partner Lee Cattermole.

Dalglish is also hopeful of beating Arsenal and Tottenham to the signature of £15m-rated Blackburn defender Jones, with the Scotsman continuing to look for young English talent to bolster his squad following the arrival of £35m Andy Carroll from Newcastle in January.

Both Henderson and Jones are currently with the England under-21 squad in Spain for preparation ahead of the European Championships in Denmark, although the Sunderland man is on stand-by to head to Anfield should the prospective deal reach its conclusion.

Any deal for Jones would reportedly alert Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who had planned to sign the 19-year-old next season and eventually build his back line around him, and in the meantime sign his team-mate and Blackburn captain Chris Samba.

Reports suggest the Samba deal is advanced, with the Lancashire club preferring to see the Congolese international leave Ewood Park and Jones remain, although any move by Liverpool for Jones may force Wenger to alter his transfer plans.
