The increased economic activities on the Copperbelt and other areas in Zambia will help grow the agriculture sector, the Zambia Seed Company (ZAMSEED) has said.
Company marketing manager Zack Musonda said in an interview at the on-going Copperbelt Mining, Agriculture and Commercial Show (CMACS) that the company was confident that agriculture would grow because of the increased economic activities resulting from the mining industry.
Increased mining activities, have resulted in growth of other industries offering support services.
Mr Musonda said there would be increased demand for food and ultimately leading to growth in agriculture.
He said the industry was doing well and would help develop agriculture not only on the Copperbelt but the country at large.
He urged farmers to select proper seed so that they are able to produce high quality crops good for the market.
Mr Musonda said picking the right variety of seed was critical for the farmers to have high yields.
Mr Musonda said the company had in the last three years been producing more high quality seed to meet increased demand on the market.
He said although the seed company had the potential to produce 17,000 tonnes, it was producing in small volumes.
