Nairobi — The identity of two suspected Kenyan drug dealers arrested in Tanzania with 5kg of narcotics believed to be cocaine worth about Sh225 million were released Thursday.

A senior anti-narcotics officer Thursday said the Kenyan nationals, Antony Karanja Asa Kibunja and Ben Ngare Macharia were arrested Wednesday midnight at Dar es Salaam Mbezi suburbs.

They were apprehended in the house of Ms Mwanaidi Ramadhani Mfundo, popularly known as Mama Leila, who police suspect is a drug kingpin.

Also detained was Ms Sara David Munuo who was found with one kilogramme of the suspected drug in the same house. The police were acting on a tip off from an informant.

“We inspected the house and found 5kg of substances we believe to be cocaine,” the officer who asked for anonymity told The Citizen.

In Mama Leila’s room, the police found the drugs stuffed in small two one-kilo packets labelled Coffee Care Original, apparently to conceal the substances.

The arrests of the two Kenyans come at a time US President Barack Obama named Kenya’s Kilome MP Harun Mwau and Naima Mohamed Nakiniywa among seven foreigners targeted by his government over narcotics.

A source has confided to The Citizen that Mama Leila holds more than two passports and is well known in Kenya over drug deals.

Police said they were still communicating with Interpol for records of Kenyan suspects and whether or not Mama Leila was a Kenyan.
