The deputy Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has withdrawn his petition against his colleague MP from Fanteakwa whom he accused of insulting northerners in the country. On Wednesday, there was a heated debate between the minority caucus and Mr Fuseini who accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Mr Kwabena Amankwah Asiamah of describing northerners as "lazy people" who like to engage in "tribal and community wars", an accusation the minority vehemently denied and protested. Mr Fuseini further petitioned the Speaker of the House to refer the conduct of his colleague to the Privileges Committee for disciplinary action.

The Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu has imputed mischief on the part of those who recorded him saying President John Evans Ata Mills had difficultie reading and was therefore not in control of the presidency and government.

He told Asempa Today that on the so-called secret tape, he never said President Mills was blind and did not mention Ato Ahwoi and P.V. Obeng’s names but it was reported that he accused them of usurping the power of the President.

“The message I delivered at the meeting was meant for the NDC family and not for public consumption, so between me and those who secretly recorded it and put it in the public domain the public should judge who is up to mischief,” he said.

Mr. Nyaunu said the information he shared at that meeting was not something that other members of the NDC family did not know about so it was not a secret, but those who recorded proceedings of the meeting have turned it into a tool to the party.

Hon. Teye Nyaunu, who is also a leading member of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ campaign team, said he was not perturbed by the secret tape recording and that he would continue to speak the truth whenever necessary.

Meanwhile, he had described Nana Konadu’s recent tour of the Volta Region as successful, saying that Nana Konadu promised to redeem her campaign promises if given the nod to lead the party to the 2012 general election.

“She promised to build the party structures at the regional, district and constituency levels and the people were happy, which gives us the confidence that we are going to win the July Congress,” he said.

But the Head of Communication for Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME), Barbara Serwaah Asamoah has rubbished the accusation by Hon. Teye Nyaunu saying his statements were more mischievous than the act of secretly recording him.
