Sudanese centre referee Abdel Gadir Badr El Din will be the man in the middle when Uganda Cranes host Guinea Bissau in Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Namboole stadium this Saturday.
The 35-year-old will be assisted by countrymen Ahmed Ali Waleed and Bakheit Awad. Ethiopian Gebrewold Gebremariam is the match commissioner.
El Din will not be a new face in Uganda after he handled KCC’s 2-0 victory over Mozambique’s Ferroviario de Maputo in the Caf Champions League preliminary return leg tie at Nakivubo stadium in February 2009. A teacher by profession, El Din has been a Fifa/Caf referee since 2004.
Meanwhile, local soccer governing body, Fufa’s publicist Rogers Mulindwa confirmed that the Guinea Bissau contingent is expected in the country this evening.
“We’re not sure of the time of their arrival because they are using a chattered flight but our team will be at Entebbe to receive them,” Mulindwa told a media gathering during Fufa’s weekly briefing at Mengo. “They have a mandatory pre-game training session on the Namboole turf on Friday.”
Mulindwa also remained optimistic over the Cranes-Bissau tickets sales after confirming only 9,103 had been sold out of the 34,000 printed tickets.
