The police in Abuja yesterday arraigned a 28-year-old man, Iorwuese Abuul, before an Abuja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a car from Kugbo Mechanic village.

Iorwuese of Karu village, Abuja, was charged with joint acts and theft, offences contrary to Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Stephen Eimoga, informed the court that on May 23, one Usman Abu of Kugbo Mechanic village, Abuja, reported to the police that the accused conspired with one Peter, now at large to steal a Toyota car with registration number CM 63 AAA, valued at N450,000.

He further stated that the car was given to the complainant to repair, adding that during police investigations, the car was recovered from the accused, who later confessed to have stolen it in connivance with one Peter, who took it to a village in Nasarawa State.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and requested for bail, while the prosecutor asked for a hearing date.

Senior Magistrate Celestine Obinna Odo granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a reliable surety in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned to June 20 for hearing.
