BUA Group and FL Smidth have signed a N75 billion contract for the expansion of Edo Cement billed for completion in August 2013.
BUA Group is one of the six companies licensed by the Federal Government in 2008
to bring bulk cement into the country.
At the signing of the contract in Abuja, yesterday, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Executive Chairman of BUA Group, said: “We ventured into cement business since 2008 and we have really done quite well. I can assure that once production starts, it will continue. Let me add that cement is a very important aspect of the nation’s economy.
“The demand for cement is very high and supply is not as much as it should be.
But with our coming on stream, Nigeria is going to be self-sufficient in the next three to five years.”
He explained that FL Smidth came up as one company that could do the job after series of negotiations that culminated in the signing of the contract yesterday.
