According to Yaw Kokore Joshua, Peace FM’s correspondent at Success FM in Gaoso, the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 31, between 12 to 1am.
Narrating the incident on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning show, Yaw Kokore said the driver of the tipper truck lost control of the steering wheel when the front tyre got burst, resulting in the truck veering off the road. According to him, the Benz bus which was full of passengers including some children and students was on its way from Techiman to Tamale.
Upon realising that the tipper truck driver had lost control, the driver of the commercial Benz bus tried to make way for the truck by parking at the side of the road only for the tipper truck to come slamming into it and crashing it beyond repairs.
The impact on the bus was so strong that all the three passengers on board the tipper truck including the driver and all the passengers on the Benz bus not excluding the diver and the mate all perish on the spot.
In all there were 5 children, 16 women and 6 men in the both vehicles who lost their lives in the tragic accident.The 5 children, two boys and 3 girls, are below the age of 10.
The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Techiman Hospital morgue. The Techiman Police commander is yet to make an official statement about the accident
