A picture of what the Eagles could be like against Ethiopia glittered yesterday while they trained at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Abuja.
Ike Uche was dazzling and he attacked a lot. His superb two goals against Vincent Enyeama delighted.
The Eagles were drilled in a close game of seven a side game which was meant to enhance both close marking and possession football.
The Argentines are known for fast play and a close game could help the Eagles check their forays. If they get that right, opening up the game will be the next option if they are looking for goals. That they may do today in their last training. But it appears Eagles would attack freely in the match.
Chelsea star, Mikel Obi who has made name in his club as a defensive midfielder was more offensive in training yesterday. He was allowed freedom to attack more, giving indication that he may be more offensive, the attacking role he once played at the youth level before going to Chelsea where he has never gotten close to scoring in more than four years at the Stamford Bridge. That has not impressed Siasia who wants his confidence to grow around the box.
“Any time Nigeria is playing Argentina, the feeling of revenge is always there. But unfortunately, there won’t be Lionel Messi but it will still be Argentina,” ace sports journalist Michel Obisaid of tomorrow’s game, adding “this friendly match against Argentina will help bolster Eagles against Ethiopia. It is good for them and will not weaken them as some people are saying.
The match will be interesting and those who will be in the stadium will enjoy their money on the match.”
“We’ll give it our best shot,” Siasia had said. He appeared calm and hopeful.
Home star Ehiosu Ekhigo who is on fire may get a chance to play. Nigerians will be all eyes on him.
