Shabelle Media Network (Mogadishu) 31 May 2011 Mogadishu — Fighters loyal to Al shabaab movement on Tuesday morning assaulted a military base manned by Raskamboni fighters in Lower Jubba region in southern Somalia. Reports emanating from suggested the fighting was very heavy as crackling machine gunfire and artillery barrages could be heard throughout the areas the combat took place. In the duration of battle, at least 4 people were killed and dozens more injured

Mogadishu — Somalia’s minister of trading on Tuesday warned Somali government forces and African Union peacekeepers in Somalia against decimating the properties of Somali business community by bombarding Mogadishu’s largest and busiest market.

Speaking to local media associations, Mohamoud Abdi Garweyne, the minister of trading said that market of Bakaara is the heart of Somalia’s economy and business and activities.

He reiterated fighting at the vicinities of the market may represent a huge blow on the business and the economy in general.

Bakaara market is said to be biggest not only in Somalia but east Africa as well.

However, repetitive battles between Somali government forces backed by African Union peacekeepers and Al shabaab have strongly paralyzed all activities in the market.
