Following Swansea‘s 4-2 victory over Reading at Wembley in the Championship play-off final, the Premier League now know which three clubs will be looking to gatecrash the top table of English football next season.
However, Brendan Rodgers’ side, as well as QPR and Norwich, will know that the work to avoid an immediate return to the second-tier must start now, as all three clubs attempt to bolster their squads. With the Bosman ruling allowing players out of contract to leave without a transfer fee, there are certainly some bargains to be had.
Swansea boss Rodgers has already confirmed that his side will need to invest in the summer, QPR look set to spend on their return to the top-flight, while Norwich boss Paul Lambert has already snapped up James Vaughan from Everton.
But for the new boys, it is experience, not exuberance, that will keep them afloat next season and Goal.com have picked seven of the best free-transfers available to those looking to add those who have been there and done it all before.
| LEE BOWYER | Leeds United, West Ham, Birmingham City |
| JOHN CAREW | Aston Villa, Stoke City |
| JOHN PANTSIL | West Ham, Fulham |
| SEB LARSSON | Arsenal, Birmingham City |
| EIDUR GUDJOHNSEN | Chelsea, Tottenham, Stoke City, Fulham |
| BOLO ZENDEN | Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Sunderland |
| SOL CAMPBELL | Tottenham, Arsenal, Portsmouth, Newcastle United |
In addition to this shortlist of seven, there are a number of other players with bagfuls of Premier League experience that could prove invaluable to any of the promoted clubs.
They include:
Ricardo Gardner
Andy Reid
Abdoulaye Meite
Abdoulaye Faye
Michael Brown
Richard Kingson
Anthony Gardner
Richard Hughes
Diomansy Kamara
Jlloyd Samuel
With hundreds of top-flight appearances between them, it is unlikely that any of these players will go unnoticed once their contracts finally expire.
