West Bromwich Albion are expecting to agree a new deal with striker Peter Odemwingie who impressed in his first season in the Premier League.
The Nigerian international signed from Lokomotiv Moscow last summer and has proven an instant hit, leading the club’s scoring charts with 15 goals and has been the subject of much speculation linking him with a move away.
Baggies boss Roy Hodgson has spoken openly about his desire to tie Odemwingie down to a new contract and the club’s technical director, Dan Ashworth, is confident that a new contract can be agreed.
Ashworth told the Express and Star: “We have spoken to Peter and we have spoken to Peter’s representatives.
“We know where they are and they know where we are and I don’t foresee any great problems in sorting out a new contract.”
Ashworth revealed that he had hoped a new contract would have been agreed before now but the player and his representatives have been on holiday.
He added: “Things have been held up because all of the relevant parties are away.
“But once we can get everybody together I’m optimistic we’ll be OK.”
