LAGOS—The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State has charged the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, to stop chasing shadows in its criticisms of the last administration of the state as it affirmed that the period of election campaign is over.
The party, in a statement made available to Vanguard, yesterday, further affirmed that it was not accountable to ACN, asserting that all records of accounts and expenditure during the Bukola Saraki regime were in the public domain for the party to see.
The reaction from the party followed sundry accusations by ACN including inflation of recent projects commissioned at the twilight of the Saraki administration.
”ACN is hiding under the fig leaf of accountability to prosecute a tendentious political campaign. This is plain political mischief.
During the elections, ACN’s main campaign strategy was gratuitous attack on PDP and the person of Dr. BukolaSaraki,” PDP said in a statement issued by Alhaji Isiaka Danmairomo, the Public Relations Officer of the state chapter.
”The strategy failed woefully, because the solid achievements of our governor and our party spoke for themselves. The good people of Kwara chose PDP, over and above a party that thrives only on attack, scare-mongering and propaganda.
”But rather than rest this failed strategy, or wait for the outcome of their petition at the tribunal, ACN would continue to chase shadows by trying to cast aspersion on the state government, Saraki and our party.
”In case they do not know or they have forgotten, the elections are over, and they lost. Campaigning after election is mischief, and a waste of time. ACN amuses itself by claiming to speak for the people. That is plain fiction. No one appointed ACN as the spokespersons of the people.
”It is worth recalling that the Dr. Bukola Saraki government was the first state government to establish a Due Process Office and the first to get a sovereign rating from Fitch, an international rating agency because it opened its books to the world. But we will not be accountable to mischief- makers or be dragged into a red-herring by obvious partisans.
”It is worth stating that Kwara PDP is not afraid of robust opposition. If ACN is interested in providing strong opposition based on issues, ideas and policies, we will be happy to engage them. But it will remain vacuous mischief if all they do is vend outright lies, crude propaganda and character assassination,” it added.
