“The next thing we realised was that the robbers went on rampage, shooting indriscriminately, which made motorists abandon their cars and run for their dear lives,” he stated.
He said after the incident, they discovered a police officer lying on the ground in his pool of blood.
Responding, FCT Police Spokesman, Superintendent Moshood Jimoh, confirmed that a police officer was injured, while trying to stop armed robbers on the highway.
“They refused to stop and a gun battle ensued. Investigations are ongoing and the officer is receiving treatment in a hospital,” Jimoh said.
He assured residents of their safety, adding that policemen need their cooperation and are working round the clock to secure their lives.
