A fully-load petrol tanker, Tuesday, went up in flames along Asaba-Benin highway, killing a driver instantly while no few than three persons were wounded.
Vanguard gathered that the petrol tanker heading towards Benin from Asaba and a Pick Up van were dragging over right of way resulting in an accident near the NNPC Mega station.
Eyewitness said, “immediately the tanker hit the Pick Up van, there was an explosion. The vehicles caught fire leading to the death of one person believed to be the driver of the Pick Up van. Three other persons were severely burnt but were rescued.”
As at press time, the tanker was still on fire while men of the State Fire Service were battling to put out the fire. Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission were also on hand in the rescue operation.
As a result of the accident, there was a traffic gridlock on the highway before it was brought under control. The wounded persons were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba for treatment.
