Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United should forget about the game in Gelsenkirchen last week when welcome Schalke to Old Trafford on Wednesday night for their Champions League semi-final second leg.

The Red Devils dominated proceedings in the first encounter as they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners, but Ferdinand is only focusing on the game ahead.

Speaking to the club’s website, Ferdinand said: “We played really well in Germany – I don’t think many teams in the world could have dealt with our attacking play over there.

“But tonight is a different game altogether and we know we still have a job to do if we’re to get through to the final.”

The two-goal lead United hold puts them in the prime position to advance to the Wembley final on May 28, where they will face Barcelona after Pep Guardiola’s side knocked Real Madrid out with a 3-1 aggregate victory.
