The groom’s uniform of Colonel of the Irish Guard featured a scarlet jacket, a bright blue sash, gold sword slings (without an actual sword inside) and a forage cap.
He also wore the Garter Sash with the Wings of the Royal Air Force, the Garter Star and the Golden Jubilee Medal.
Despite his worries about being “too nervous”, a smiling William appeared relaxed as he chatted with the Dean of Westminster at the Abbey and was escorted down the aisle by Sir Stephen Lamport, Prince Charles’s former private secretary who now works at the Abbey.
He also greeted members of his mother’s family, kissing his aunt, Lady Sarah McCorquodale (Diana’s sister), and close friends Tom van straubenzee, the van Cutsem brothers and Guy Pelly.
