THE NATIONAL Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu clocked 88 during his visit to London last week.

During the occasion, he addressed Muslims at the London Central Mosque, a rare opportunity for Islamic scholars from West Africa, and had lunch with the Director and Imam of the facility.

He was accompanied on the trip by Alhaji Abdul Kadir Tahiru, head of the Dagomba community in the Greater Accra region. The National Chief Imam, in his speech, dealt with the solidarity and togetherness of the Muslim Ummah and the importance of honouring guests as demanded by the tenets of the religion.

Sheikh Sharubutu was offered another rare opportunity the next day at the London mosque when he was asked to lead the Asr prayer. Afterwards, he spoke about Islamic evangelism as he advised those engaged in the propagation to adopt good strategy, wisdom, tactfulness and the avoidance of violence.

He said the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him) employed peaceful and tactful ways in educating his people and carried the message of Islam as the message of Peace and Peaceful Coexistence with one another.

Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu gave an illustrious example of a hunter who scared his prey while hunting and consequently never brought home an animal until he changed his tactics by luring his prey instead.

The National Chief Imam advised the entire Muslim body to stay focused, united and cautious about their God and the hereafter in order to grow stronger and committed to helping each other. He cited the verse in Holy Qur’an that explains that, “Almighty Allah asked Muslims not to fight each other or engage themselves in unnecessary arguments, by so doing, they grow weak and the enemies of Allah will have gains over them,” he said.

The spiritual leader urged Muslims, especially those living in the western world, to be cautious about their duties to Allah wherever they found themselves.

He said Islam commanded Muslims to obey Allah by adhering to the Noble Prophet Mohammed and to obey people in high authority explaining that “people in authority” here means Islamic scholars and the government or law enforcement agencies.
