Lucas: Ready for competition
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva insists he is not worried about the threat of extra competition for places in the side next season.
The Brazilian, who recently signed a new deal at Anfield, believes his performances this season have proved he has the quality to be a regular member of the starting XI.
Lucas has helped win over his critics this season with a number of impressive showings in what he believes has been his best campaign to date for the Reds since arriving from Gremio in 2007.
Liverpool are expected to spend heavily in reinforcements in the summer, with midfield expected to be one of the main areas for strengthening, but Lucas is relishing the competition for places.
“I don’t think I would sign a new contract if the club did not have a plan for me in the future,” said Lucas.

“I am happy with the way I am playing. A lot of players have come already and I am still here and playing so that means they believe in my football and my qualities.
“Next season we will see what happens. They will sign players, of course, but I think I have shown I am capable of being in the team all the time.”
