Duncan Tastes First Defeat …Kotoko Draw Again
Accra Hearts of Oak’s revival campaign suffered a jolt when they succumbed 0-1 to Ashgold in Accra yesterday.
The defeat blighted Hearts’ new manager David Duncan’s unblemished record since taking over from C.K. Akunnor barely a month ago.
Aaron Amoah’s first half goal was the only goal in the clash, but it was enough to hand the Miners, who had lost three times in succession, all the three points.
Hearts fought tirelessly to cancel the lead but goalkeeper Fataw Dauda, who on many occasions denied Hearts the equalizer and his men in defense, were resolute to guard the lead.
Not even the showing of Ashgold midfielder David Telfer the exit after a second yellow card offense could help the Phobians to equalize.
Coach Duncan reshuffled his cards, pulling out raster-haired Laryea Kingson for Edward Affum; yet his men failed to go past the visitors.
Mahatma Otoo, Nuhu Sulley and Ashitey Olenu fought gallantly but they could not pull even.
Ashgold’s Francis Cofie and former Hearts/Kotoko forward Louis Agyeman came close to doubling the lead, but failed in their respective attempts.
At the Robert Mensah Park, Dwarfs held Kotoko to a goalless score line, making it the latter’s second on a trot and they maintained their unbeaten run.
