It’s another weekend of action across Europe and African stars will again be out there to prove their worth.
From Friday night, Schalke 04 were held to a pulsating 2-2 draw by hosts Fortuna Dussledorf with Cameroon star Joel Matip on target for Schalke and Nigeria forward Chinedu Obasi a late sub for Schalke.
Uncapped Nigeria striker John Chibuike scored in a 5-2 win for Rosenborg to move to the top of the Norwegian league, while in the German lower league, Anthony Ujah scored on his debut for FC Cologne.
Follow the all the action only here on MTNFootball.com –
13hr54 – One of the biggest talking points in the English Premier League will be the London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea, which has already begun.
Chelsea are top of the EPL on 13 points and unbeaten and Arsenal are fifth and four points adrift.
And you can bet that African flag will be flying in this action where more than city pride is at stake.
Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi faces a tough ask trying to stop the lively Santi Carzorla of Arsenal, while Cote d’Ivoire star Gervinho will lead the Arsenal attack.
14hrs02 – Already there is an African goal and it is coming from the Russian league, where Senegal striker Dame N’doye has drawn Lokomotiv Moscow level 1-1 with champions Zenit Saint Petersburg. Nigeria striker Obinna Nsofor has come in as a substitute with the game in the closing minutes now.
14hrs06 – Chelsea have gone ahead and the scorer is Fernando Torres, so it seems there is still life for the Stamford Bridge club even after the departure of the great Didier Drogba.
14hrs14 – Arsenal fans will most certainly be fuming as their team are down to their city rivals, but also because the cheapest ticket for this game would be a princely 62 pounds.
14hrs17 – The game in Russia between Zenit and Lokomotiv has ended in a 1-1 draw. It was an ill-tempered game and both teams finished with 10 men. It was Ndoye’s second goal for third-placed Lokomotiv since coming from Denmark. The striker has been picked for next month’s AFCON return leg clash at home in Dakar against Cote d’Ivoire. The Ivorians won the first game 4-2.
14hrs29 – Gervinho finally delivers for Arsenal! Arsenal 1, Chelsea 1. The Cote d’Ivoire forward turns superbly well inside the box to rifle home into the roof of the net with minutes to the interval. It was a superb finish, quite unlike what he showed at Manchester City.
14hrs35 – Half time at The Emirates, Arsenal 1 Chelsea 1, a really great watch with end-to-end action in this London derby.
14hrs42 – In Russia, Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike has started for Spartak Moscow away at Amkar Perm.
