First batch of degree students at AUCC to gaduate

The African University College of Communications (AUCC) will be graduating its very first batch of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree students on Saturday, December 10 on the university’s campus.

The university, established in 2002, is only one of two universities in Ghana with communication as the flagship programme and has already been rated by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a potential centre of excellence in media studies in Africa.

The occasion will be used to graduate the university’s 8th batch of Diploma Students. A total of 76 – 46 degree and 30 diploma – students will be graduating on Saturday.

This year’s graduation is under the theme: Communication is the major driving force in today’s world. and it will have Hon. Mrs. Betty Mould- Iddrisu, Minister of Education as the special guest of honour and Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana as guest speaker.

After running the Diploma in Communication studies programme for five years, AUCC in 2007 was accredited by the National Accreditation Board to introduce the B.A degree programme in Communication Studies.

The school currently runs courses in Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communications, Digital/Visual Communications, Development Communication and General Media Studies.

In line with the university’s vision of becoming Africa’s best centre for journalism, communication, information technology and business management studies, it introduced a B.Sc. programme in Business Administration in 2011.

The AUCC has institutes and centres such as, Centre for Africana Studies, Centre for Innovation & Creativity, Centre for Public Speaking and Speech Writing, Centre for Development Communication and Centre for Information and Communication Technology.
