Government Releases Full List Of New Districts
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, announced that Yilo Krobo, Ejura Sekyedumase, Savelugu, Nkoranza South, Kpando, Manya Krobo , Kassena Nankana and Sefwi-Wiawso are existing districts elevated to municipal status. Some of the new districts include Salerugu which is carved out of the Tamale metropolis, the Kwahu Afram Plains South district out of Kwahu North, Afadzato out of the Hohoe district and the Agogo district out of the Asante Akyem District. Ofosu Ampofo assured that the new districts will be given adequate seed capital to enable them function. He called on other traditional areas which have not been provided with new districts to be patient as government strives to meet their demands. Below is the full list of the new districts: Greater Accra Tema – Kpong Katamanso Central Region Ewutu Senya – Kasoa Municipal Northern Region West Gonja – Daboya District Eastern Region Kwaebibirem – Denkepeo Brong Ahafo Central Region Volta Region Western Region
The government has released a list of the remaining 37 districts that form part of the 42 newly created ones throughout the country.

I hope the creation of the new Districts are not politically motivated. what is the criteria for the creation of a new district?
I am very surprised that not even a single district has been created in the Gonja land, when the people in the area are seriously pushing for a separate region. Can anybody explain to me why?
Deen, the creation of these new Districts are politically motivated.It is one of the NDC plans to secure more votes after failing the people of Ghana their campaign promises.

Thanks for the creation of Ekumfi District but the Government should work on the boundary as part of Ekumfi (Edumadzi Area, from Ekumfi Swedru to Nananom) is still with Mfantsiman West not to create any problems for the new district. God Bless you Prof Mills, you are winning again for another 4 years rule to safeguard this country from anxious and property grabbing politicians who want power by all means.
