Spio Picks NDC Forms
According to the source, Spio is expected to pick forms before the close of nominations tomorrow.
The NDC vice chairperson had earlier said his current preoccupation was to help in unifying the NDC.
‘My focus at this time is not to add fuel to the very fire I’m describing by also coming out and declaring my candidacy for the flag bearer ship of the party,’ he said.
‘I’m not someone looking…for my own personal gratification or some kind of ego thing that I need to go on. I’m interested in a united NDC and also a progressive, successful…party…so my current plan is to work with anyone else in the party who also recognizes the importance of party unity, of avoiding the wrangling and avoiding the fractious contest that is about to take place between now and July 8th, 9th and 10,’ he told Joy FM.
For this reason, Spio, who is said to have resigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of London-based Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO), emphasised, ‘I’m trying to be a peacemaker in this situation or I want to be a unifier in this situation.’
The NDC kingpin called on President Mills as the leader of the party, footsoldiers, the executives and all who mattered in the NDC to bury their individual and collective differences to not only unite the party but move on in life.
According to him, ‘There is no reason for the sitting President to go through any possible…potential humiliation in a leadership contest even if he wins it.’
Though he admitted to the fact that President Mills had the right to contest the next elections, Spio said he must be guided by the example of former South African President Nelson Mandela who served only one term and earned the respect of many the world over.
He did not subscribe to the belief that every President should necessarily serve two four-year terms to be successful since he considered it a myth. He urged President Mills to look into the mirror and decide whether it was in his interest to seek re-election.
It not clear why Spio is changing his mind to contest the NDC presidential slot.
